In celebration of Indonesia’s upcoming Independence Day (August 17), we are featuring our Indonesian Beef Rendang Dish- Java.
Beef Rendang is a dish which originated from the Minangkabau ethnic group of Indonesia, and is now commonly served across the country. One of the characteristic foods of Minangkabau culture, it is served at ceremonial occasions and to honour guests

Our Java/ Beef Rendang is slowly cooked in coconut milk and spices for several hours until almost all the liquid is gone, allowing the meat to absorb the spicy condiments. It takes as long as 3-4 hours to fully cook this delectable dish and get all the flavors down, definitely something worth waiting for. The cooking process changes from boiling to frying as the liquid evaporates. The slow cooking process allows the meat to absorb all the spices and to become tender. There are many versions of cooking Rendang of course, but our Java/Beef Rendang will blow you away. Topped with Cucumber Salad, our Java Beef Rendang dish is our favorite take on this classic Indonesian dish.

We had an amazing time catering the Producer’s Guild of America mixer at the FOX studio lot, thanks to our friends Shawna and Sonya who helped connecting us.

At the event, we celebrated the launch of our brand new dish- SOI, a vegetarian soy tempeh dish with a lovely and savory peanut salad.

What’s “tempeh” you ask? Here’s a great 411 from Wikipedia

Tempeh, or tempe in Indonesian, is made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form. Tempeh is unique among major traditional soy-foods in that it is the only one that did not originate in China or Japan. It originated in today’s Indonesia, and is especially popular on the island of Java, where it is a staple source of protein. Like tofu, tempeh is made from soybeans, but tempeh is a whole soybean product with different nutritional characteristics and textural qualities. Tempeh’s fermentation process and its retention of the whole bean give it a higher content of protein, dietary fiber, and vitamin. It has a firm texture and strong flavor. Because of its nutritional value, tempeh is used worldwide in vegetarian cuisine; some consider it to be a meat analogue.

Just the first night of release, already it is one of our fans favorites of the evening. Together with a completely redesigned Summer Menu, the Soi is available as burritos or tacos. Go get em today! Yes, you don’t have to be a vegan to enjoy this delectable dish.

Komodo has a signature meatball dish with Romesco Sauce.

What is Romesco you ask? Well, it is a type of sauce originated from Catalonia- made with a delicious blend of almonds, pepper, garlic, olive oil, a variety of herbs and our secret touch. While traditionally served on seafood, we chose to remix the composition and adding it as a contrasting element to our meatball dish.
Two additional trucks are rolling out soon that will cater to the infamous burger fans of Los Angeles. Although much of the niche has been served mostly by Baby’s Badass Burgers, will they continue to be “badass” with the mainstream release of Umami Burger and Grill’ Em All. Twitter: @umamiburger. Twitter: @grillemalltruck. The gourmet burgers offered by our nouveau (love that word) truck industry will definitely become a heated battle of upscale burgers.
